How Can You Use ChatGPT as a Recruiter?

The robots are rising and if you can’t beat ‘em, you may as well join ‘em. But if you think you can beat them, we’d pay to see that. It’s quite scary how much AI can do now and has even left people uncertain about the future of their jobs, but the best way to look at it is that they’ll save you tons of time with lengthy, repetitive tasks. Plus, what’s cooler than having a little robot sidekick?

Everyone used to think the future would look like flying cars and living underwater (Busted - you were wrong) but it’s much more subtle than that. Smartphones, the godsend that is cars that parallel park for you and now ChatGPT.

We took a look at how recruiters can use ChatGPT and the possibilities are endless, but here are our top picks to use as inspo to get started.

Job descriptions: Look, you know the job better than a bot, but by giving it a prompt it will provide a full job description in less than 30 seconds. You may not want to copy and paste it as it is but you can use it as a starting point. If it’s not quite right, you can go back and ask them to do it again, including specific keywords, company name or try it in a different tone of voice. You can also ask to include more detail and prompt what you’d like to include.

Example prompt: Write me a job description for a Customer Success Manager for a video tech company.

Bonus tip: Our new product Hiredeck Pro integrates with ChatGPT to automatically create an AI-generated candidate summary for every applicant in your shortlist.  This is a great time-saving feature to elevate your submissions, and it’s all available from within your CRM! Launching soon…

Create a bank of interview questions by role or industry: Ask your new friend to create a list of questions you can use for future interviews. You can even specify what type of questions like “give me 10 behavioural questions for [X] role, give me questions specific to the [X] sector, give me 10 competency-based questions, etc. Have some fun with it if you want some unique questions to find out more about a candidate's personality.

You can also provide a job description and ask them to extract questions from it to ask a candidate for the interview.

Example prompt: Give me 10 questions for an interview for an Account Manager.

Reaching out to candidates: ChatGPT will help you write outreach copy to use either as an email, social post or even a video script if you’re sending a Capture. This is perfect if you’re not sure how to structure it or tend to spend a lot of time crafting that perfect message.

Example prompt: I’ll give you a job description and you will write an [email/social post/video script] to engage a candidate.

Bonus tip: Ask it to use a convincing, friendly, human tone, use [X] industry terminology and keep it short.

Candidate assessment: You can save manual work by asking ChatGPT to assess a candidate against a job spec. It will provide a breakdown of the candidate’s suitability against your job requirements and you can ask for a list of pros and cons.

Example prompt: I will provide a candidate and a job brief. Assess their suitability for the job with a list of 5 pros and cons.

These are just a few ways you can use ChatGPT to speed up your hiring process but you can also:

  • Ask it to summarise lengthy job descriptions
  • Summarise CVs to send to a hiring manager
  • Jazz up candidate CVs
  • Conduct market research
  • Ask for a list of industry-specific keywords
  • Ask it to generate templates for providing feedback to candidates

So, what are you waiting for? Embrace the future of recruiting and let ChatGPT be your trusty sidekick. Who knows, you might even have some fun along the way. After all, what’s more fun than having a robot do your job for you?
