How to Steer Clear of the Spam Folder
Although the proof is in the pudding that video messaging has waaaay more impressive open and response rates compared to traditional emails or cold calling, it’s safe to say that there are still a few people who are a little pessimistic out there.
We couldn’t help but laugh at a Reddit thread that our Product Analyst, Meghan, found while doing some research. A now-deleted user (maybe he was ashamed for being so wrong) posted a screenshot of an email they received from a recruiter with a Capture link. The Reddit post was titled “No, I’m not clicking your sketchy link. No, I’m also not calling you. Details or GTFO”.
It’s a bit harsh, but it did get us thinking. With scammers becoming more savvy, people are extremely on edge when receiving cold emails or messages with links. Capture is completely safe and although it’s not why this candidate flagged this message, it shows that personalisation can go a long way.
The title of the message read: Private and Confidential Opportunity
The content of the message: Hi, Hope you are well. I have an enquiry and I recorded a video for you with more details on the link.
Other users commented on the vague details and wording, with one even claiming “I just got a virus reading this message” (which did give us a chuckle). It started a chain of conversations about the lack of personalisation and recruiters just trying to hit outreach targets. Our entire aim is to humanise the hiring experience, so here are some tips if you’re using Capture on cold candidates/clients.
Add some chat!
Save your best chat for the video, but prospects won’t open unknown links from strangers (unless you’re my gran who got a message about activity on her account from a bank she doesn’t even use). Show you’re interested and speak a little about the role, introduce yourself and say that you do things a little differently and have included a link to a video message you have recorded for them.
Copy Capture link with preview.
A random link in between a bunch of text can look a little strange sometimes. If you copy the link to your capture with preview, it will show the video subject and a preview of your message, or a GIF if you’re feeling extra snazzy. This helps put the receiver at ease, knowing a human is behind the message.
If you’re active on LinkedIn and have a profile picture that matches your video, that will help too. The receiver only has to click on your profile to see you’re legit. They can see where you work, your activity and your connections. They’ll no longer see you as a bot and can calm any nerves they have about getting an unexpected message.
We hope this helps if you find that your messages go unread sometimes. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
